PROGRESS ON KANDALAMA WORKS
 
Under Kandalama tank there are 4,000 acs. of existing area (H6 & H8) and 14,000 acs. of new area (H7 & H9). The existing Kandalama right bank and left bank canals are widened to carry the increased discharges and will be extended to command the Project Area to be benefited by them.
 
Kandalama works commenced during the early part of this year and construction of camps have been completed. At present work is going on only in H6 and H8 areas. New areas H7 and H9 will be taken up next year. In mid January 1975, contract for the construction of R.B. sluice was awarded to a private contractor. Work is progressing satisfactorily.`
 
In April 1975, contract for widening of R.B.
Main Canal
was awarded. Earth work is almost completed. Work has commenced on the construction of structures along the Main
Canal
which was given as a separate contract in July 1975.
 
Improvements to Randeniwewa tank is in progress. About 60% of band formation has been done. The work on outlet structures will commence shortly. These works will be completed during this year.
 
2.   Rehabilitation of H6 & 118 areas
 
Rehabilitation and remodelling of the existing irrigation system, involving the widening of D Channels and field channels, reconstruction of structures and construction of additional structures, where necessary, widening the existing roads, etc. will be done in the existing 116 and 118 areas under Kandalama.
 
Channel excavation work in tracts 1, 2 and 4 has been completed. Repairs of existing structures are nearing completion. These works will be completed during this year.
 
Works in L.B. Tracts have been undertaken by TCEO and 35% of earth work has been completed.
 
All these works are expected to be completed by the end of 1975 so that the lands will be ready to receive water.
