Cultivation competitions for promoting local food production

Mahaweli Authority has conducted cultivation competitions among farmers, villages, officers, office premises, schools, women small groups in all Mahaweli systems. Mahaweli System B,C,G,H,L Walawa special area, Huruluwewa, Medirigiriya, Victoria, Kothmale, Moragahakanda Project, Upper Mahaweli Forest and Environmental unit and all Engineer in-charge offices belongs to the Mahaweli Head works are the areas where the competitions are conducted. 1. Model Homestead 2. Model Farm Family 3. Model Yaya 4. Model Village 5. Best School Premises 6. Best Unit Office Premises 7. Best Block office premises/Best EIC Office Premises 8. Best RPM's Office Premises/Best Project Director's Office Premises 9. Best Officer Quarters Premises 10. Best Women Small Group Main objectives of the competitions are creating awareness and encourage the people for the adoption and increasing of production of local food crops under "Api Wawamu Rata Nagamu" programme. Initially 1st , 2nd and 3rd places were selected for each competition from each and every Mahaweli systems and finally these places are selected as inter system Level.
