The
inflow from the Trans-basin Canal into Ulhitiya Oya together with
the inflow from its own catchments area is regulated by the Ulhitiya-ratkinda
reservoirs for irrigation of Systems ‘C’ and ‘B’.
The earthen embankment of the Ulhitiya – Ratkinda Reservoirs
is of a total length of 5.9 km and consists of the Ulhitiya Dam
and the Ratkinda Dam, which is across separate reservoirs thus formed
are connected by an open cut link canal and have a total storage
capacity of 144 million cubic meters. The two reservoirs function
as a composite reservoir and has a radial gated spillway on the
left bank of Ulhitiya Oya to discharge a 200 yar design flood of
1742 m3/s.
