An act to establish the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka which shall be the Authority responsible for the implementation of the Mahaweli Ganga Development scheme to provide for the establishment of corporations to assist in such implementation, and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto

The bill is to insert to the Mahaweli Authority Act. No. 25 of 1979 and thereby to give special power to a Minister in change of the subject of Mahaweli development to exercise his powers under the Land Development Ordinance and Crown Land Ordinance, in respect of a special bill under the Mahaweli Authority Act.

Gazette notifications declared the Mahaweli special areas include the catchments areas to Mahaweli Ganga and its tributaries and the area needed for construction works & areas to be developed under the various Mahaweli Systems.
